Religious Peace Tax Freedom Bill

A most worthy proposal in the US. I wish we had a similar campaign here and elsewhere, but it matters most in the US by dint of the sheer size of military spending that exceeds that of all other countries combined. Turning swords into plowshares (Isaiah 2:4 & Micah 4:3) may not be immediately possible given how entrenched the “gun belt” is in the economy, but this is a great start. The action below comes from the Buddhist Peace Fellowship (BPF), allied with the US National Campaign for a Peace Tax Fund:

Action Alert: Religious Peace Tax Freedom Bill peace tax

As tax time approaches, are you troubled by the fact that nearly one-third of every U.S. federal income tax dollar goes for military purposes – nearly $600 billion dollars? We encourage you to support the Religious Peace Tax Freedom bill. BPF has endorsed this legislation, which would provide a way for people to participate in the U.S. tax system without violating their religious convictions regarding war and militarism.

    Hey Ann!

Busy, busy, but will be back soon!

I’ll support anything to get a tax break! I had mentioned the same about the U.S. government’s funding of the arts when “Piss Christ” came out. Imagine what we could do if we could earmark our tax dollars! Talk about making a difference!

Timely Reminders

"Those who crusade, not for God in themselves, but against the devil in others, never succeed in making the world better, but leave it either as it was, or sometimes perceptibly worse than what it was, before the crusade began. By thinking primarily of evil we tend, however excellent our intentions, to create occasions for evil to manifest itself."
-- Aldous Huxley

"The only war that matters is the war against the imagination. All others are subsumed by it."
-- Diane DiPrima, "Rant", from Pieces of a Song.

"It is difficult
to get the news from poems
yet men die miserably every day
for lack
of what is found there"
-- William Carlos Williams, "Asphodel, That Greeny Flower"
