"Those who crusade, not for God in themselves, but against
the devil in others, never succeed in making the world better,
but leave it either as it was, or sometimes perceptibly worse
than what it was, before the crusade began. By thinking
primarily of evil we tend, however excellent our intentions,
to create occasions for evil to manifest itself."
-- Aldous Huxley
"The only war that matters is the war against the imagination.
All others are subsumed by it."
-- Diane DiPrima, "Rant", from Pieces of a Song.
"It is difficult
to get the news from poems
yet men die miserably every day
for lack
of what is found there"
-- William Carlos Williams, "Asphodel, That Greeny Flower"
Nutjobs from the left heckling a nutjob from the right. I can’t sympathize with either side. Don’t tell me you think it was the United States that attacked itself on 9/11.
I rather admire these Americans for challenging the bellicose chant of war against Iran and others in which Podhoretz has been so complicit.
Re 9/11, I can claim to know little with certainty about the events surrounding that day, but what I do know is that it is the current administration’s conspiracy theory and claims that don’t stand up to scrutiny, at all.
If you’re referring to the repeated attempt to link Iraq to 9/11 then you’re right, but the responsibility of Osama Bin-Laden and Al-Quaeda for the attacks has been proven.
By the way, the top generals (including Wesley Clark) that the protester mentions have called for an investigation into the Bush administration’s incompetence leading up to the attacks and not an investigation into who carried them out.
“Nutjobs from the left”
What makes you think they’re on the left? One woman said she was a liberal, I think, but the rest didn’t express any leftwing opinions.
“Don’t tell me you think it was the United States that attacked itself on 9/11”
This is a meaningless statement. Individuals carried out the attacks, not a country. The question is who.
“the responsibility of Osama Bin-Laden and Al-Quaeda for the attacks has been proven”
When was this proven? Who proved it? It’s never seen the inside of a courtroom, has it? Where do you get your opinion from? Who does your thinking for you?
##When was this proven? Who proved it? It’s never seen the inside of a courtroom, has it? Where do you get your opinion from? Who does your thinking for you?##
exactly. if proved then why no trial inabsentia?
