You’ve made yet another appreciative fan, on both the musical and political fronts. The lyrics are marvelous. You won me when you graffitied the apartheid wall and stood up for Palestinian rights, calling for an end to occupation and moving a concert last year after consultations with Palestinian and Israeli peace activists away from Tel Aviv to a site where both co-exist: the peace village of Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam.
This gorgeous peace/protest song is just the icing on the cake.
Enjoy the music. Details of a new album and tour can be found here.
Roger Waters co-founded the groundbreaking rock group Pink Floyd in 1966. This talented musician has also written an opera, Ça Ira (There is Hope), an “operatic history of the French Revolution”.
Roger Waters Leaving Beirut song introduction Sydney (one minute)
Leaving Beirut 2006 (9 m)
Wow, that was brilliant. Once again, I must thank you for a priceless discovery.
About 6 years back, I once fell quite ill and eventually a friend took me to his home so him and his family could look after me. The friend is a big Roger Waters fan, so the few days that I was there, I ended up listening to the Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking over and over and over again. And the sweet recurring melody that runs through the record just stayed in my head, and until this day it makes me shiver whenever I hear it.
Waters is no doubt a musical genius — for me, he’s right upthere with Mozart and Vivaldi — but it is his intellect and compassion that put him above any maestro.
Thanks again!
My pleasure, Ed.
Just saw Waters in Oakland, California last night and posted a review on my Blog at http://isorski.blogspot.com/. Enjoy!
