Mapping of Israeli assault: July 12-28

The Maps of Israeli Assault on Lebanon are developed by a group of activists to demonstrate the reality of the Israeli assault on Lebanon. An act of collective punishment that is overreaching and unequivocal, and opposite to Prime Minister’s Ehud Olmert claim that Israel is “not fighting the Lebanese government or the Lebanese people”.

The map is our attempt at understanding the cumulative impact of such an attack on our lives as citizens and on the hundreds of thousands being killed or displaced daily. The figures and numbers on the map speak for themselves. As you look at the map, we urge you to remember that these dark dots you see, are villages and towns where thousands of civilians reside, the majority of which are now numbers in a long list of dead and displaced.

Timely Reminders

"Those who crusade, not for God in themselves, but against the devil in others, never succeed in making the world better, but leave it either as it was, or sometimes perceptibly worse than what it was, before the crusade began. By thinking primarily of evil we tend, however excellent our intentions, to create occasions for evil to manifest itself."
-- Aldous Huxley

"The only war that matters is the war against the imagination. All others are subsumed by it."
-- Diane DiPrima, "Rant", from Pieces of a Song.

"It is difficult
to get the news from poems
yet men die miserably every day
for lack
of what is found there"
-- William Carlos Williams, "Asphodel, That Greeny Flower"
