Peoples Geography — Reclaiming space

Creating people's geographies

Readin’ and no writin’

Been doing so much reading that I haven’t had much time for posting this weekend. I can however recommend a few. One of them is my good friend Ed over at The Fanonite, who has posted on Hollywood and the Israel Lobby.

Check it out: Hollywood and Israel

An encouraging article currently hot on the blogging rounds is The myth of Muslim support for terror in the latest The Christian Science Monitor, ably covered by Homeyra and Monte. Author Kenneth Ballen is founder and president of Terror Free Tomorrow and has some interesting findings from a multi country poll on attitudes about bombing and other attacks intentionally aimed at civilians.

For a good overview article related to Iran, please see Doug Stych’s at Doug’s Darkworld.

Timely Reminders

"Those who crusade, not for God in themselves, but against the devil in others, never succeed in making the world better, but leave it either as it was, or sometimes perceptibly worse than what it was, before the crusade began. By thinking primarily of evil we tend, however excellent our intentions, to create occasions for evil to manifest itself."
-- Aldous Huxley

"The only war that matters is the war against the imagination. All others are subsumed by it."
-- Diane DiPrima, "Rant", from Pieces of a Song.

"It is difficult
to get the news from poems
yet men die miserably every day
for lack
of what is found there"
-- William Carlos Williams, "Asphodel, That Greeny Flower"
