Truly amazing lyrebird

Thanks to Nadya for forwarding this amazing video. The wondrous lyrebird here mimics camera shutters and motor, the kookaburra, and even car alarms amongst other amazing noises. Nature is truly remarkable. Who needs theme parks?

And, sadly, it also mimics chain saws. This beautiful bird is one of the best reminders and advertisements for conservation. Just thought I’d add that comment in. (Luckily, it doesn’t mimic my singing, that would really hit discordant notes :D )

On the contrary dear friend, delighted you could find a few things of interest and to reciprocate as your blog is a great read :) Btw the write up on your post was good, incl. the fact that the lyrebird features on our ten cent piece.

Timely Reminders

"Those who crusade, not for God in themselves, but against the devil in others, never succeed in making the world better, but leave it either as it was, or sometimes perceptibly worse than what it was, before the crusade began. By thinking primarily of evil we tend, however excellent our intentions, to create occasions for evil to manifest itself."
-- Aldous Huxley

"The only war that matters is the war against the imagination. All others are subsumed by it."
-- Diane DiPrima, "Rant", from Pieces of a Song.

"It is difficult
to get the news from poems
yet men die miserably every day
for lack
of what is found there"
-- William Carlos Williams, "Asphodel, That Greeny Flower"
