I listened to this lecture this afternoon (1.1.2008) and accessed the transcript so that my husband could also read it. We can dream of world disarmament - not only nuclear, but an end to the obscene amount spent on all weapons of destruction which cause so much distress and loss of life in so many countries. Would that the amount spent on destroying life could be spent on ways of enhancing it by providing basic needs for health and education. I intend to let as many people know as possible about this transcript.

Thank-you as always,<a href="http://www.abc.net.au/rn/summer/2007/talk/individual/20071231.htm" rel="nofollow"> Ratio National</a> - you continue to provide me with 'brain food'.

I nearly fainted when I saw this lecture. I always dismissed the idea of world disarmament and permanent peace until I read Lay Down Your Arms, the Autobiography of Martha von Tilling, by Bertha von Suttner. Published in 1894, it sold millions of copies in 80 languages and contained every argument for and against war and peace that I could imagine. When I finished it, I became an adherent to the idea of total world disarmament and permanent peace. From believing it impossible, I now believe the opposite. The ideas presented here by Hans Blix is a wonderful reinforcement for me. THANK YOU! Mike Havenar
